And the Beta is why I didn't get it.
Let me explain. I lost 6 good years to a WoW addiction. I was a Hardcore raider. It consumed my life. Sure, I'd take a break for 4-5 months here or there, but the Siren's Song always called me back, and I'd be instantly neck deep in the whole raiding culture. I work 60 hours a week. At the height of my addiction, I put more time into WoW than THAT!. (on top of said work)
It put a huge strain on my private life. On my leisure time (read: all of it). On my gaming - I had zero time or interest to play anything else with the exception of those few months I'd "quit." And quite obviously put an enormous strain on my marriage.
I finally quit for good about 3 years ago. I promised my wife I would never again play an MMO that made me feel as if I needed to spend all my free time on it. Whether it be farming, raiding, PVP, whatever. I have a bit of OCD and an addictive personality. I tend to either do things full bore, or not at all. And every second I wasn't doing something in WoW, it felt like I was losing ground.
So I played the Beta for Destiny, and I got a very real impression this would turn out to be another rabbit hole I'd fall into. It was fun, yes. But I knew that for me it was trouble.
Now, I told you all of that to tell you this:
I've been bored the last few days nursing an injured knee (can't walk on it at all). I actually got bored enough to start playing Ghosts. I figured that - especially on PS4 - there'd be very few people playing, but oh well, I have nothing better to do.
Oh, there's enough people playing... and they're all SHITE!
Whole clans of nancies holed up in a single room watching every angle in or out. Assholes who's first (and only) play is run to a corner... lay down with LMG / Thermal Scope (or Tracker).. that's it. And, of course, wannabe "snipers" everywhere.
I do believe the only people left playing are the ones who saw Destiny, said "You have to move???" And ran back to Ghosts.
Quite literally my second match in MONTHS was on Strikezone. My team didn't even leave the damned spawn! What's funny is, the other team ran into the bar, and they all sat too. So after running into a buzzsaw (I can only check so many corners, shadows, and random lumps on the ground), I knew what was up and did a little experiment....
Not to camp. Just to see how long it would take for these mental midgets to actually get bored and go on the attack.
3 minutes, and not a single shot. Neither budged. I quit out.
Now, that was the worst example, but almost every match has varying degrees of no skill hacks thinking their camping "skills" (lol) are awesome.
The next CoD may sell. But it's already in the death rattles for a gaming community. Destiny took the last of the few left moving away. I can't wait to hear people moaning about losing a TDM by the score of 800-700 or some shit like that.
Or... if they're so lazy they can't even move in a VIDEO GAME, maybe they'll all go into heart failure, or die in fires because they can't be bothered to move IRL either.
Now give me a FPS that isn't an MMO, please.
