I have been battling with posting this or a similar thread for a relatively long time. And finally today after talking with iEntry I decided that I needed to ask for input from the very people that started there.
I have admins and moderators from three other sites brain storming and pointing traffic to C4B. I have taken over the responsibilities as admin not out of any financial gain but because I love the site for what it means to me as a bridge to the friendships I have made. I also understood that by taking on admin duties I would be further limiting myself in the capacity as a regular forum member and contributor.
After taking over as admin I began to realize the depth and scope of what it takes to run the site and to run a site that went from being the largest COD site out there to a five year old shell of its former self. I do not think that a lot of people understand what is entailed with the operations of the site behind the scenes and I think that this lack of information makes it easy to dismiss the site as dying or dead. Any questions you all might have I will try to answer.
But this is not a thread about my woes as admin. This thread is intended to try and find out why -now that time and hands have passed- some of you still refuse to get involved again or are involved in a very limited capacity with a site that could be in many cases thought of as the base of a lot of the friendships that have grown between members.
If you have any insight as to what I can do to increase your interest I would be most anxious to hear them.
One of the main problems with any site that is older and has a family atmosphere is that at the same time everyone is close it also allows for the formation of cliques. For a new comer that can be hard to transition into and even for other members it can be a daunting task. There is no way around the "newbie" "veteran" mentality and all forums have it to some degree.
The way that I see it is the veterans have an obligation to protect the forums but at the same time be welcoming, encouraging and helpful to new members. For the most part with what little active members C4B has left this is the case. Every now and then someone will show up that trolls the community but the forum members and or moderators handle it. Likewise every now and then people will sign on just to say "Wow this place is dead". Which in my mind is the same thing and instead of promoting and helping the site only furthers the decline of it. No new members want to stay on a site when the first post they read is negative. I am not saying that any of you do this, it is just an example.
So again I love the site. Call me sentimental but I love the site because it is a reminder of where I met you all making some of the best e-friendships I have ever had.
So -and you are not under any stress to answer, though I would like you to answer- is it that you all are just over the dealing with people who may have different thoughts on gaming than you? Is it that you still hold some resentment toward a particular member that still lurks there? Is it that the site just does not hold the same value for you that it once did? Or is it some other reason?
I mean I truly want to know the answers as to why some/most of you stay away from the site.
I doubt very much that the site will be as popular as it was 4 - 5 years ago but I do have a feeling that the site is again gaining popularity.
